The facts about federal funding to St. HOPE

BACKGROUND: The Sacramento Bee has published a story tonight reporting on federal funds to St. HOPE
The article has several errors we are hoping to correct, but I want to share with you our campaign’s rapid response.
 
Kevin’s statement:  “From day one, we have fully cooperated with the review by the federal government. We will continue to do so until the investigation is completed.”
 
Other points you should know:
 
1.      St. HOPE Academy and St. HOPE Public Schools are two completely separate legal entities.

2.      The investigation of SHA will have absolutely no bearing on SHPS. SHA does not currently receive any federal funding, so there will be little to no impact there either.

3.      The schools WILL NOT be affected.

4.      Kevin Johnson is not a principal in either organization.

5.      The decision to suspend funding until the investigation will not impact the operations of St. HOPE Academy.

We also are concerned about the political timing of this announcement, particularly given the background and comments of the Inspector General about the KKK.
