Sacramento needs new ideas and reinvigorated leadership in order to restore confidence in city hall. As mayor, I will change the way the city is run in the following ways: First, we must make public safety our highest priority and put more officers on the street. Second, we must find new and creative ways to deliver services to our citizens. Third, we must adhere to responsible budgeting that does not rely on new taxes to bail out fiscal mismanagement. As CEO of St. HOPE Academy, I grew businesses, met payrolls and balanced budgets with a disciplined approach that can be applied to government.
When it comes to the city's budget, the mayor must have an unwavering commitment to fiscal discipline and accountability. To that end, I will rebuild people's trust in city hall by opening our books up with a top-to-bottom performance review by an independent auditor. Only by asking the tough questions and identifying how our tax dollars are being spent, we will be able to create a truly accountable, results-based culture in city hall. Our performance review must include all city expenditures, including city contractors.
