Statement from Kevin Johnson on Sacramento neighborhoods:
"I grew up in Oak Park and have seen it evolve from a place that had unpaved sidewalks and ditches in front and on sides of many houses to a place where companies around the globe have come to do business. How did this happen? It happened because a neighborhood came together to make Oak Park a better place to live.
That's my goal - to enable the people in all 24 of Sacramento's neighborhoods to achieve the vision they want for their community. I've learned well that people - regardless of where they live - all want the same things: clean, safe streets; good schools; more jobs and affordable housing; greater incentives for growing local businesses; thriving arts and cultural activities; working parks and recreation resources; and responsive services that take care of basic living needs.
I'm committed to working with leaders in every Sacramento community to understand their challenges and to use the power of my position as mayor to exceed their expectations. Together, I know every neighborhood will thrive if we all work together. As your mayor, building neighborhoods that work is the key component to building 'A City That Works For Everyone.' I hope you join me in this task."
