California State Assembly Speaker Emeritus Fabian Nunez announced his endorsement of Kevin Johnson to be the next Mayor of the City of Sacramento. Nunez described Johnson as a leader with drive, entrepreneurial spirit and a deep commitment to the community and city he grew up in.
"I greatly appreciate Speaker Nunez' endorsement," said Johnson. "He has been here in Sacramento for the last six years and as Speaker of the State Assembly, he knows this City needs a leader who will work with everyone to develop the best practices and solutions to improve the lives of Sacramento families."
"I will continue to meet with people every day and stay focused on the issues that are most important to Sacramento families, the economy, education, and public safety," said Johnson.
In his endorsement, Nunez stated that Sacramento is in a unique position of being home to the State Capitol which is in a way every Californian's hometown. He described how Johnson had already reached out to find ways to work together to improve the City.
"Sacramento should be one of the state's crown jewels, representing the best California has to offer. Someplace people want to live, visit and invest in," said Nunez. "That's why I feel it's important for me to speak out in support of Kevin Johnson and what he can bring this community."

Also attending the press conference was Sacramento Councilmember Sandy Sheedy and Mark Tyndale, Vice President of the Sacramento Police Officers Association. These community leaders have endorsed Johnson because they want change and strong leadership for the City of Sacramento.
