Johnson Addresses Gang Tax on Local News

Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Sacramento Mayoral Candidate Kevin Johnson appeared on Fox 40 News and CBS 13 News this morning to explain his position on the gang tax.

"I have not opposed the Gang Tax. What I've said is 'this not something I support without details.' I think it was hurried. It was not well thought out. It was kind of a hand-me-down proposal that the County Board of Supervisors, with good intentions, wanted to get passed. But they couldn't get law-enforcement support, and couldn't get broad-based community support," Johnson said.

"For me its about seeing the details. We do have a gang problem in Sacramento," Johnson said. "Law enorcement does not have the support they ideally need, but there does need to be prevention and intervention as well.... This proposal is a step in the right direction, but we need more detail."
