SACRAMENTO – Democratic mayoral candidate Kevin Johnson reported raising $170,548 since July and has $79,590 cash on hand, a significant advantage over Mayor Heather Fargo, according to city election finance reports filed today.
“I’m pleased with the broad support in the Sacramento community, particularly from small donors,” said Johnson. “This is a grassroots campaign that has both the support of labor and business, as well as many voters who’ve never contributed to campaigns before.”
“These fundraising reports are an excellent indicator of the momentum of this campaign,” said Johnson campaign manager Steve Maviglio. “When a 20-year politician heads into the final stretch of the election with dismal fundraising and debt, it’s the sign of a failing campaign. On the other hand, when a political newcomer finishes well ahead in both votes and fundraising, it’s clear that the city wants change.”
Johnson had more than 288 donors. The average contribution was $592, with more than 103 donors contributing less than $100.
In the June election, Johnson received 46 percent of the vote, Fargo 39 percent.
