Mayor-Elect Kevin Johnson to Give Keynote Address at Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet

Thursday, November 13, 2008

SACRAMENTO - Sacramento’s newly-elected Mayor Kevin Johnson will make one of his first major public appearances as mayor by giving the Keynote Address at the Sacramento Black Chamber of Commerce’s Awards and Installation Dinner tonight.

After a hard-fought campaign against two-term incumbent Mayor Heather Fargo, Johnson rolled to a solid 57.8 to 42.2 victory in the November 4th General Election that also saw the nation elect Senator Barack Obama as the nation’s first African American President.

Johnson, the city’s first African American mayor; told guests at his victory party that he was “humbled” by the City’s selection of him as mayor and vowed to keep his campaign commitment to make “Sacramento a City that works for everyone.”

As the driving force behind the economic renaissance in his childhood neighborhood of Oak Park, and the founder of the Sacramento High charter school whose students have continuously raised their academic performance, the Sacramento Black Chamber asked him to bring his unique message of change and progress to guests at the annual banquet.
