Reserve a ticket for the swearing-in online
SACRAMENTO – Sacramento Mayor-elect Kevin Johnson today announced plans for a public swearing-in ceremony on November 25 at the Memorial Auditorium in downtown Sacramento. Themed "Together We Can," the ceremony will build on his campaign pledge to mobilize the community to work together bring about effective change and public action.
"Our theme – 'Together We Can' – isn't about one person or organization, but about Sacramento coming together to address the serious challenges and opportunities our city faces," said Mayor-elect Kevin Johnson at a news conference at Hands-On Sacramento, a full-service volunteer action center in downtown Sacramento. "I can think of no better way to kick-off my administration than to focus my swearing-in on a renewed commitment for all Sacramentans to give back to their neighborhoods and communities."
The swearing-in ceremony will center on volunteerism and working together to improve and strengthen the Sacramento community. Hands-On Sacramento will be at the event to provide information and connect attendees with volunteer opportunities at over 350 local nonprofits and schools. In addition, as our city heads into the holiday season, those attending the swearing-in ceremony are encouraged to bring along cans of food to donate to the Sacramento Food Bank.
Lisa Ling, television journalist and Carmichael native, will serve as the master of ceremonies and the program will include performances by the Rio Americano High School Jazz Ensemble, 34th Street Dancers and the Sacramento Theatre Company Young Professionals (STC-2). Pastor Ephraim Williams, of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, will swear Johnson in. Other highlights include a "Together We Can" video featuring the Sacramento community and fireworks donated by Kevin Crews who produces the Sacramento Kings pre-game fireworks show.
Starting Monday, November 17th, Sacramentans can reserve a ticket to the ceremony by visiting www.kevinjohnsonformayor.com. General seating for the ceremony will be available on a first come, first served basis. Doors open to the public at 6 p.m. and the program is expected to begin at 6:45 p.m.
